would you rather have...

this...

or this...
Well the best gift giver strikes again. Yesterday, April 25 was our 6th wedding anniversary. You'd think by now, I would have learned my lesson that every time there is a gift involved, this guy is sure to not disappoint.
We had a busy day. I worked while Matthew and Collin spent another lovely Saturday together. He dropped her off at the salon on the way to basketball where he played 2 games and his team took 2nd place in the championships. We didn't get home until about 9:30 so our celebration was pretty non-existent because we were both dead. (Party animals...I know.)
On to the gifts.
In the morning before work, I was excited to give him his gift. I stressed for a few weeks on what to get. He's not the easiest to buy for. I called a good friend for advice and he was confident that Matthew would love a longboard. Fun gift right?
Before he got out of bed, I went out to my hiding spot in the garage and brought in the perfect (a-hem) gift. He walked right passed it and didn't say a word. The pits began to sweat and I was beginning to feel my confidence slipping away. I quickly started to explain myself...and really tried to place the blame on his friend for the advice!!
I told him I didn't care if he took it back and by the time work was over...the refund had already been credited to our account. I'll let you decide if I hit a home run! :)
After the long day of work/night of basketball, we retired to our posts. His being the couch for some sports center and mine being the bed. As I laid in my bed I started getting a little sad. I didn't want to be bratty but I just thought that he could have at least given me a nice card? My emotions started stirring. I tried to keep silent but I couldn't. So how does one handle this situation in 2009? Text him of course!! I just (in my nicest text voice possible) explained that although we had a great date night the night before, I was just a little bummed that he didn't recognize that TODAY was our actual anniversary. It wasn't but 30 seconds later that ole Prince Charming came and delivered! He threw me the box (which by the way was tied with the ribbon from his cool skateboard). In it was a totally awesome/cute/fabulous watch that I've had my eye on. My face was hot and I was embarrassed. He completely outdid himself...yet again.
My question for him was 'when were you going to give this to me?' he said...'tomorrow. why do you doubt me?' Why he was waiting till the next day? I have no idea.
Lessons Learned...
  • More patience needed
  • Always know that he'll give a way better gift than I will give him
  • Next holiday...he's getting a gift card!

That is a great story. Thank you for sharing. The texting totally cracks me up (only because I've totally done that). Happy Anniversary again, and many more!

Great story, Meg. Sounds like our household. Ryan always gets me the perfect gift and I always get him something he takes back. Go figure. Love the gold watch!!

I think Matthew and Bryan are both hard to please. The same thing happens to me every birthday and Christmas. He returns my stuff. And I too think I do a pretty good job of picking things out. Then he blows me away with an awesome gift for me and I feel bad. Just last week when he was in Moab and I went to Palm Springs with my parents... I got him a few surprises at the banana republic outlet. Did he like any of them? NOPE! The scary thing is... his birthday is next week and I have no ideas... help!

Oh you two...
Eric used to wait until the next day or as late as possible to give me a gift. He was just waiting to see if I would react and be a brat. I never failed to disappoint in that area:)
Great gifts, both of them!

too funny! I'm pretty sure Todd has taken everything I have ever gotten him back! My problem is I never like anything he gets me too but I'm to lazy to take it back!

HA! that would sooooo be Shane!!! Only I would do the return. He would keep it and never wear it, use it..whatever. Then I get MORE mad, because he should of just returned it the 1st day. SO hey, at least Matthew will take it back and you get the money back!

Congreats on 6 years!
