Anytime I give a gift the good intention is always there but sometimes I fail. Last week, was my dear husband's birthday. I bombed it. Big time. If you will remember back to this post, you will recall that I vowed to never give him a gift again. I've since become weak in my promises until this last birthday. I had nothing. A card. Period. We are doing a fun activity this week for his birthday...but it really was sad when Collin kept asking, "Dad, where is your birthday gift?"
So all week I have felt terrible. Horrible. I can't get it off my mind that I gave the guy I love the most A CARD!
Fast forward to YESTERDAY. I'm getting out of my car and see a scrap piece of paper which read the following...
Synergy Bat
Blue/Gray
Bella-562-555-5555
My wheels began to turn. I was so excited. This was going to be the best Father's Day gift and he'd have no idea I would be able to pick out such a perfect present.
First, I call "Bella" to see if it was a company that he'd already ordered from. An old lady answered so I assumed I had the wrong number.
Then, the research started. I looked on every website that has ever carried softball bats. I called about 15 local sporting good stores with the bat's description. I searched through his dirty softball bag to see what size his other bats were. I finally put a bat on hold about 30 minutes away from my house, loaded up the kids, and headed down to the store to make the big purchase. We had just enough time to got to the store, buy the bat and get to the doctor.
On my way, I called his best friend to approve this gift. I told him the whole story about the note and how I found THE bat and how I'm going to give the best present and it will totally make up for his lame/non-birthday gift. He let me tell my whole story and replied with this.
"Megan. Stop driving. Abort mission. Do NOT get the bat. Yesterday we got an email from someone (named Bella) who left her bat at the last church softball game. Matthew was suppose to call her about the bat."
Seriously? That was about to be quite the pricey misunderstanding! I called Matthew, we laughed. Hard. And now I'm back to square one. Any ideas?
PS...Why would he even need a new bat....he got one just 2 birthdays ago. And he loved it then. (I think?)

I am laughing so hard! I can completely visualize the entire scenario and it's killing me! That was very thoughtful of you.
Magician school.
You're welcome.
This is about the funniest thing I have heard in a long time! You go Megan...
That story made my day. If you can think of a fun fathers day gift let me know.
Oh my gosh! That is just too funny!! Why am I just hearing about this now!
funny funny. i applaud your valiant efforts.
That's one of the best stories I've heard in a long time. Really funny.
A for effort? That is HILARIOUS!
that story is classic. lol! don't worry, every present I can think of for Russell is something I can't actually go get, you know like stuff for his fishing boat? what? so when I asked him what his favorite dessert is(yes I should know this after 8 yrs of marriage) he replied "home made ice cream" duh. So he's getting an ice cream maker to which we will make for fathers day dessert...fresh peaches included.
SO funny Meg! Love it. And just so you feel better, Ryan takes back everything I buy him. I finally gave up.
