***Journal Entry~March 4, 2003 "...I'm FINALLY engaged! I am so excited, happy, anxious, stressed, stressed and freaking out! Well I guess my stress level could be worse. Let's back up to "the asking". Wednesday, February 26th, 2003, Matthew came over around 11:00 am to bring me my car. It was my day off and I looked like complete trash. He suggested we go get some lunch. I went and changed while he snuck into the kitchen and found my mom's phone number. We got in my car and I happened to have a big blanket in the back seat so I suggested going on a picnic for lunch. His plan was working because he knew I would have suggested a picnic. We picked up some sandwiches and drinks and headed to Freestone park. When we got there, Matthew hurried off to the bathroom to call my mom to ask her permission while I set up our lunch. He was gone for quite a while. I was learning patience early. We ate and talked and just had fun. I was ready to go but he was not. (now your thinking here's where it gets juicy. don't get too excited) After stalling at the park for a while, finally, we left and NO PROPOSAL...yet. We went back to his house and we were just talking in his room. At approximately 2:40 pm (weird that I wrote that) Matthew starts to chuckle. I asked why he was laughing and he said, 'I was going to ask you to marry me today'. I sarcastically replied, 'yeah...right, I'm sure you were.' Then, asking me very casually as if he was asking me what I ate for lunch that day, he said, "So will you marry me?" and me responding with a sarcastic 'yeah of course' I was so confused as he was shoving a ring on my finger. All I could say was, 'are you serious? are you serious?' So that is my unromantic, anti-climatic but very unique proposal. It's a darn good thing I'm in love."
Hind Sight is 20/20. I still remember that funny day. Sure I could say that I might have changed a few things that happened at the time...but really, who cares. I got the guy and that's what matters. Maybe I would have enjoyed the moment a little more...instead of rushing off to Crate & Barrel to register, 15 minutes after he asked me. Maybe I was a little bummed that he never asked my dad for permission to marry me but at least he asked my mom. Maybe I would have waited until after I was engaged to buy my wedding dress and could have possibly found one that was more 'me'. Maybe I should have put a little more effort into my appearance on the day I was being proposed to...just in case he took one look and changed his mind. YIKES!
Here we are...at least he looks really cute...and really young.

perfect!
I love that you have always been a picnic person!
I'm so glad that he asked you, and you said yes. We love you both, and are so glad that you became a part of our family. I just wish we could see eachother more often, it has been way too long!
I love your love story. It's the perfect mix of sweetness and hilarity. And journal excerpts! That is legit.
